RE: Your Choice Of Axe??
Acoustic:
-Yamaha FG730S with a L.R. Baggs M1 Active Pickup.
The pickup is really good.. but the guitar is decent.. its my first acoustic and I'm way above the level of the guitar. But, I am saving up this summer to buy a very nice one.
Electric:
- Epiphone Les Paul Goldtop '56 Reissue
- Fender Blues Junior amp
I suck at electric now, but I am learning all the technique and scales..
I am an acoustic man though.

RE: Your Choice Of Axe??
Same same.
I play my Gibson Mk-35 mostly (which is in my avatar!).
I've gone off electric. I didn't practice much because i found it so boring to play on my own all the time. Also amp, leads and tone issues piss me off.
Anyway I have a Tokai Les Paul. I was thinking of selling it but ill probably regret it.
and a 60s Eko copy of a 335. Theyre all beautiful. I just with i had a decent amp!

Parker P-40 ... Roland MicroCube
The guitar was an awesome gift from my brother. Before that I was only playing on a knock off Squire that i'm now trying to turn into a neck only practice tapping device.
I have no real aspirations for owning much more than a couple of guitars, that sound ok. They do everything I need

RE: Your Choice Of Axe??
Personally, I really dig my Dwarven Battle Axe +4.
Ahem, pardon the lame D&D joke there.
Actually, I am having a guitar built now by Michael Greenfield in Montreal. I first tried his guitars at the Canadian Guitar Festival in 2004 where he had some on display. I've wanted one ever since and am finally making it happen!
His guitars... I've played a lot of guitars. And although everyone has their own preferences in tone, playability, aesthetics, and all that, Michael's guitars for me are eons and light years and millenia beyond anything I have ever played. I hadn't really had a chance to play one of his guitars much in the following years since that first Canadian Guitar Festival, but a few weeks ago while in Boston, we stopped at a great music store called "The Music Emporium" and they actually had 2 Greenfields in store. I picked the first one up and just strummed a D chord for like 15 minutes. My jaw was on the floor and I was drooling and breathing through my mouth. The other guitar was a baritone of his and I just died on that one as well. Frickin amazing.
The main reason I never pursued buying a Greenfield earlier was due to the fact that I couldn't really afford one. His guitars are on the more expensive side that is for sure, but if you ever get the chance to try one you will understand PRECISELY why his guitars have such a price. Fortunately, we worked out an agreement and I will be playing his guitars exclusively on stage and for recording, which will be a pleasure and an honor for me anyway. If I could pick one guitar to record and perform with, it would be a Greenfield! As a result, I get an "artists" price on the guitar/s that I buy from him.

I thought you said you already had one, didn't you?
I've checked out this website before actually, and one of the reason I never mentioned having one of his guitars was because they are so damn expensive! :O Well... good for you though andy since you are a guitarist making a living out of that, so I wouldn't expect you not to get some godly sounding guitars, I love the little smooth bit for the arm to lean on ^-^ I've even added Greenfield on facebook when i randomly stumbled upon his site... I know... lame...
good luck with your new guitar coming anyway, since that would be sex on f**king wood
P.S. "The Phoenix"... *drool*...

RE: Your Choice Of Axe??

But seriously now.
I've been playing a Seagull since I started - one of the S6+ models that I picked up used for $170, then outfitted with a Fishman Eclipse blend. More recently I've been using a Taylor 410 that I won in a competition for the more melodic stuff, since it really has a voice for that and records flawlessly. The Seagull is still king for live stuff, especially percussive and tap-harmonic-based pieces like Drifting, Spiritual Groove (Antoine Dufour), etc. Gotta get it repaired this Saturday though, the strap popped off and put a nice crack in the body, plus the neck needs tweaked. Totally worth it for the sound, though, even if the repairs cost me more than the guitar did.
Find me on...

I have a Ibanez AEF37ESSG. She's beautiful, all quilt maple. I'm looking to purchase a Breedlove next.

RE: Your Choice Of Axe??
Well... Andy, you've convinced me to try a Greenfield. That's a pretty amazing plug.
Besides the Harp Sympitar you see in the picture/signature... I mostly play a 2004 Taylor 915CEL7, a 1996 Taylor 914CE (they don't make 'em like they used to!) and the trusty Eric Johnson Strat.
FYI: Taylors are built like tanks inside... and I'm fairly tough on my guitars, even though I love them so much! I also like the tone of the 915 jumbo body. Over-rated Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Spruce top.'
Lightly-built guitars tend to sound great "sooner"... but might not last as long over the years. Depends on the luthier, I'm sure.
About the woods on Oracle... Indian rosewood back/sides, Spruce top, Walnut neck and headstock(s), Ebony fretboard, Burled Maple and Maple as needed. Fred went to town.
